Job Details - Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs Radiologic procedures for the evaluation of pathological entities as ordered by a physician.
- Performs related functions according to department protocols.
- Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.
- Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination.
- Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examination.
- Obtains additional information about the patient medical history, as necessary.
- Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.
- Analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and performs the Radiologic procedure.
- Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied.
- Utilizes patient immobilization as needed.
- May select and administer intravenous contrast media and monitors patient for possible reactions, providing immediate care if needed.
- Performs all imaging procedures demonstrating principles of radiation protection including shielding, dose reduction, and ALARA techniques.
- May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for procedures.
- Follows department infection control practices and techniques.
- Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored.
- Follows department standards for patient care functions ensuring safety, privacy, confidentiality, comfort, and legal/ethical rights.
- Completes all necessary work sheets, logs, patient records, and documentation.
- Assumes responsibility of teaching/educating new hires and students while maintaining own duties.
- Resolves image exceptions and ensures high quality image delivery into PACS; views images and confirms image/series counts.
- Completes all study indexing in Radiology Information System including study begin, end, and completion.
- Reviews and confirms clinical protocols with Radiologist before performing study.
- Demonstrates team member standards of excellence including AIDET, open communication, timely response, positive attitude, innovation, and respect for diversity.
- Performs all documentation in medical record and radiology information system to support clinical and billing functions.
Additional Details - Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Work in the hospital with a fixed unit and/or in the IPD/OR/ER, etc. with a mobile unit.
- Potential exposure to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized.
- Potential exposure to high-voltage equipment.
- Potential exposure to potentially contagious patients.
- Occasionally may lift and/or move equipment and/or patients in excess of 10 lbs.
