  • A sleep (polysomnographic) technologist provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in-center and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and comprehensive patient care.
  • Provides sleep related education and support to patients and families.
  • Able to perform duties defined for a sleep technician and provide general oversight of other sleep center staff.
  • Credentialed in sleep technology (RPSGT or RST).
  • Performs functions of base level sleep tech, scores polysomnograms according to professional standards, meets inter scorer reliability quality standards.
  • Performs comprehensive patient testing, education, and analysis for all patient populations served.
  • Mentors/precepts staff and champions quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Documents patient arrival, interactions, and consent for testing.
  • Reviews and verifies departmental orders for testing and patient history for medical necessity.
  • Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and education.
  • Prepares patient for testing according to policy, selects appropriate equipment per order.
  • Documents routine observations during testing.
  • Correlates physiologic data and behavioral observations to facilitate scoring and interpretation of data.
  • Performs equipment and physiologic calibrations to ensure quality data; monitors data quality to ensure artifact-free recording.
  • Performs equipment cleaning and disinfection; assures infection and quality control according to policy.
  • Implements appropriate interventions including patient safety and sleep-related therapeutic interventions.
  • Follows 'Lights On' procedures to verify integrity of data and completeness of test documentation and patient forms.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships; communicates professionally and respectfully with all internal and external customers.
  • Assists in requesting and maintaining testing supplies; participates in routine department tasks and orderliness of work area.
  • Scores sleep/wake stages and clinical events utilizing professionally accepted guidelines.
  • Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data utilizing ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
  • Supports and participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Follows procedural protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).
  • Directly participates in training and oversight of Polysomnographic Trainees and Technicians.
  • Performs real-time scoring during PSG testing and CPAP titration.
  • Attends customer service training and serves as front line resource to manage patient and family service recovery.
  • Serves as a resource to support comprehensive sleep study completion within sleep labs including verification of insurance, prior authorization and check-in process; sleep study procedure policy adherence; and support of troubleshooting acquisition software and hardware technical challenges.
    Job Requirements
  • Two plus (2)+ years of experience in Sleep lab.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide age specific care for all populations seen in the Sleep Lab.
  • Proficiency in performing ancillary testing (oximetry, actigraphy, home sleep apnea testing).
  • Proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and identifying clinical events, according to professional guidelines.
  • Credentialed in sleep technology (RPSGT or RST).
