Position Title: Physical Therapist - Acute Care
Facility Location: UMMC (University of Mississippi Medical Center) - Jackson, MS
Start Date: May 19
Setting: Acute Inpatient Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center)
Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Weekend Requirement: Occasional weekends
Holiday Requirement: No holidays; may work a weekend shift instead
Position Overview:
UMMC is seeking an experienced Acute Care Physical Therapist for an inpatient role. The ideal candidate has acute care experience in a Level 1 trauma center or large academic hospital. This role involves managing a caseload of complex patients across multiple units including ICU, transplant, cardiac, neuro, trauma, internal medicine, and perioperative settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform evaluations and treatments for acute care inpatients
- Manage a daily caseload of 12-15 patients, providing direct treatment to 8-10 patients
- Provide therapy coverage across all inpatient areas, including:
- All 5 ICUs
- Transplant, Cardiac, Trauma, Internal Medicine, Neuro
- Adult Emergency Department (ED), PACU, and Same Day Surgery Center
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, and other rehab staff
Requirements:
- License: Active MS Physical Therapist License - must be in hand
- Certifications: BLS (AHA)
- Experience:
- Minimum 6 months acute care experience in a large hospital or Level 1 Trauma Center - required
- Travel experience - highly preferred
- Academic/trauma center experience - preferred
- New grads not accepted
- Driver's License: Required - must be included in submission profile
- Fingerprinting Requirement:
- In-Person: Can be completed in Jackson or Grenada, MS (48-hour turnaround)
- Remote Option: Takes 10-14 days (processing required before start)
- Flu Vaccine: Required (only medical exemptions allowed with documentation)
Dress Code:
- Scrubs: Royal blue or grey, solid colors only
Other Details:
- Local Candidates: Accepted if outside a 50-mile radius (locals at a flat rate of $68/hour)
- Orientation: 1-day computer-based onboarding followed by 2 weeks of shadowing floor staff
- Support Staff: PT Manager/Supervisor on site; no PTAs or rehab aides on staff
