Job Details
Under the general direction of the Director of PET and with the clinical supervision of the reading physician, the technologist performs PET imaging on patients of all ages for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of patient illness.
Complies with laws, regulations, and policies governing nuclear medicine practice.
Ensures hospital, Division of Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Safety, and NYS DOH Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection policies are followed.
Performs all ordered examinations of appropriate anatomical regions according to Division Standards of Practice and Protocols.
Reviews procedure requests, protocol sheets, patient medical and screening information to ensure accuracy and patient safety.
Ensures pre-procedural preparation is completed (fasting, diet, hydration, glucose levels, voiding, medication suspension).
Maintains and posts current Permits to Practice.
Explains procedures to patients and/or families, using interpreters if necessary.
Administers contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals under Radiologist guidance and approval.
Performs equipment quality checks, troubleshoots problems, and notifies staff as needed.
Documents all radiopharmaceutical doses and provides patients with Dose Exposure Cards.
Maintains a clean and uncluttered environment.
Transfers and archives studies to PACS, MIM systems, and SMS clinical server.
Provides images to the reading room per Division Standards of Practice and Protocols.
Assists in notifying staff ordering supplies of materials needed and completes administrative tasks.
Follows quality assurance and HIPAA guidelines, maintaining patient confidentiality.
Performs required QA and documentation, including wipes and survey measurements in compliance with regulatory agencies.
Ensures radio pharmacy delivery cases are refilled, closed, and properly positioned for safe passage.
Follows protocol guidelines including appropriate waiting times after radiopharmaceutical administration before imaging.
Performs additional duties as required and stocks necessary supplies for daily availability.
Job Requirements
Must be able to start peripheral IV access lines.
Must be able to perform injection procedures including manual unit doses and dose delivery systems (e.g., Medrad Intego).
Operating knowledge of personal computers, camera and processing workstations, medical charting systems, PACS, and RIS.
Capable of a flexible work schedule, including working more than 8-hour days as required.
Must interact professionally and ethically with attending, resident, and fellow personnel.
Must produce high quality special imaging with little supervision.
Must function effectively in a team-oriented environment including training personnel.
Must be flexible, reliable, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
Ability to demonstrate competency in all relevant areas.
Responsible for adhering to SNMMI Quality Standards including CPR, Infection Control, and Imaging with Anesthesia association.
Must be able to process all PET CT Imaging including Axial Fusion processing and Myeloma Kidney Standard Cut and Coronal Cut.
Must perform quality assurance on PET cameras for X-ray, PET, and monthly constancy.
Must perform QC on dose calibrators (Intego, AtomLab 500) and wipe counter.
Schedule Information
Capable of a flexible work schedule, with possibility of working more than 8-hour days as the schedule requires.

Must be able to interact with attending, resident and fellow personnel in a professional and ethical manner.
Must be flexible, reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
Responsible for adhering to SNMMI Quality Standards including CPR, Infection Control, and Imaging with the association of Anesthesia.
