  • General Information: Beds: 36-48 (flex with semi-private rooms as needed)
  • Required experience: PCU RN: 1 year of nursing experience
  • Will accept a first-time traveler with greater than 1 year of experience, must have EPIC experience
  • Travelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
  • Patient Types: Mixed unit (Med/Surg to IMC level, as well as Long Length stay patients)
  • Common diagnoses include DKA requiring insulin drips, Pre/post-surgical patients, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders, soft tissue injury, minor fractures, DVTs, and CVA overflow.
  • Patient Ratios: PCU RN will work through all areas: Long length of stay (MedSurg/NO Tele) - 1:5-6, Med Surg/Telemetry: (no IMC drips) - 1:5, Intermediate Care - 1:4.
    Job Requirements
  • Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
  • Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments
  • Previous experience with above-mentioned patients, including IMC/stepdown and neuro; ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, wound care, line management, drip titration.
    Schedule Information
  • 6-week schedules
  • Weekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends
  • No mandatory call time; could be placed on call for extra shifts if enough staff
  • Holiday Expectations: Currently not accepting RTO requests during holidays; must send RTO requests to manager for approval around winter holidays
  • Approval of time off: Ok to approve up to a week and a half; must extend if taking a full week off; blackout dates from August 1-18 due to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
