    Job Details
  • General Information: 36-48 beds (flex with semi-private rooms as needed)
  • Required experience: PCU RN: 1 year of nursing experience
  • Will accept first-time travelers with greater than 1 year of experience
  • Travelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
  • Patient Types: Mixed unit (Med/Surg to IMC level, as well as Long Length stay patients)
  • Common diagnoses include DKA, pre/post-surgical patients, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders, soft tissue injury, minor fractures, DVTs, and CVA overflow.
  • We administer a variety of medications and manage various medical devices.
  • Telemetry monitoring is provided.
    Job Requirements
  • PCU RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
  • Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments
  • Previous experience with IMC/stepdown and neuro patients
  • Ability to read/interpret cardiac strips
  • Experience with drip titration of medications such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed.
    Schedule Information
  • 6-week schedules
  • Weekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends
  • No mandatory call time; could be placed on call for extra shifts if enough staff is available
  • Holiday Expectations: Currently not accepting RTO requests during holidays; RTO requests must be sent to manager for approval around winter holidays
  • Approval of time off: Ok to approve up to a week and a half; must extend if taking a full week off; blackout dates from August 1-18 due to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
    Unit Specific Information
  • PCU RN will work through all areas including Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, Observation.
  • CNA support available with a ratio of 1:8.
  • Charge nurse does not take a patient load.
