Hours will be 7:30 am - 4:00 pm with 2 to 3 weekends, which could be both days (they would have off before and/or after the weekend) Would love to have someone who can work Labor Day if they wanted to. Start ASAP for 13 weeks.
Inpatient (acute care and rehab)
General duties: Evaluations, treatment interventions, team conferences, modalities if able to preform, documentation, FIM's.
Computerized charting
Dress code: Business casual (no jeans), modest attire.
Number of patients - depends on the volume but 4-5 would be average with some days more or less. 21 beds.
Orientation program in dept: Would have specific training for 1 to 2 days for computer documentation, other specific department over several days.

The Acute Care staff occupational therapist is responsible for utilizing their education and training to provide individualized occupational therapy treatment for his/her patient. The occupational therapist has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations relating to the needs of his/her patient. The Acute Care staff occupational therapist may treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis, including but not limited to orthopedic, neurological, and general medical disorders. The Acute Care staff occupational therapist must possess the skills to evaluate and treat medically complex and often medically unstable patients. This entails the evaluation and ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment plans, critical thinking skills related to patients with multiple medical diagnoses and medical/ physical/ cognitive challenges. Due to the complexity of Acute Care patients, knowledge of normal/abnormal vital signs, indications/contraindications, means to monitor the patient during treatment, and awareness of various vital medical equipment are essential to be successful in this environment. The Acute Care staff occupational therapist must be able to discern and recommend appropriate discharge destination. The Acute Care staff occupational therapist must be able to manage a high volume caseload and dynamic schedule which requires a constant need for rescheduling and prioritizing of patient load, due to the influx of new orders, patients' pain, procedures, nursing cares, patient rest time. The Acute Care staff occupational therapist must demonstrate the ability to be flexible/ problem solve as roadblocks occur, and the ability to organize a fast paced schedule in multiple areas of the hospital. Must be able to communicate with interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and comfort, facilitate scheduling, collaborate re: discharge planning and utilization of resources, and promote hand off communication. Advanced critical thinking skills outside one's own discipline/ awareness of indications and contraindications for specific therapies are necessary to make recommendations and to order therapy services.
The Acute Care staff occupational therapist functions within the scope and standards of occupational therapy practice as outlined in the South Dakota Occupational Therapy Practice Act and Administrative Rules. Sanford recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Occupational Therapy as published by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
The Acute Care staff occupational therapist may be asked to supervise certified occupational therapist assistants, aides, and students as they provide patient care, treatment, or other services.
When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.
