Job Title: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (Neuro-Crani/Ortho/General Surgery)
Location: 505 Parnassus Ave, San Francisco, CA 94143
Facility: UCSF Medical Center
Shift: Night Shift, 3x12-Hour (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Schedule Type: Variable with occasional weekend coverage (approx. once per month)
Start Date: ASAP
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for our specialized Operating Room units, focusing on Neuro-Crani patients, spine/orthopedics, and general surgery cases. The ideal candidate will have strong general surgery skills with abdominal transplant experience preferred. This is a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment requiring a dedicated professional with prior travel assignment experience and the ability to float to other UCSF facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scrub and circulate in a variety of complex surgical procedures, including neurology, vascular, cardiovascular, gynecological, general, thoracic, orthopedic, and bariatric surgeries
- Provide 1:1 patient care during surgical interventions ensuring safety and adherence to protocols
- Administer blood products and maintain infection, radiation, and laser safety standards
- Participate actively in emergency management, including code response and malignant hyperthermia protocols
- Utilize advanced equipment such as Da Vinci Si/Xi Surgical Systems, cell saver, electrosurgical units, and fiber optic light sources
- Perform specimen handling and labeling with strict adherence to universal protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and maintain smooth operating room workflow
- Float to other facilities as needed
Qualifications: - Current California RN License (required)
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience, including previous charge nurse experience
- Prior travel assignment experience highly preferred
- Certification requirements: AHA BLS (required), ACLS and CNOR preferred
- Experience in teaching hospital environments and proficiency with Epic charting system
- Ability to maintain 1:1 patient ratios in critical care OR settings

- Unit: General Operating Room with 28 rooms
- Interdisciplinary support available including interpretation services and unit secretary
