NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) recent experience 2 years required
Unit Overview - NICU (Level III)
Client Requirement:
Strict screening policy - Candidates with any license hits related to medication diversion or endangerment will not be considered and will face immediate contract cancellation if discovered post-submission.
Minimum Requirements - EPIC EMR experience - 100% mandatory
- Minimum 2 years of recent Level III NICU experience
- Certifications: BLS, NRP
- Skills Required:
- Proficient in care for neonates as early as 23 weeks gestation
- Skilled in use of all respiratory equipment (HFOV, HFJV, conventional vents, CPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula)
- Experienced with feeding pumps and titration of drips (BP meds, TPN/D10, Insulin)
Unit Details - Level of NICU: III
- Beds: 20
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3 (based on acuity and staffing)
- Common Diagnoses/Patients:
- Prematurity/Extreme prematurity
- Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD)
- Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE)
- Feeding intolerance
- Respiratory support needs
- Sepsis/Meningitis
Support & Staffing - Drips: RNs are responsible for titrating (BP medications, TPN/D10, Insulin)
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor: Present
- Neonatologist: Not on-site 24/7; ARNP/PA coverage provided
- Monitor Techs: No - RNs read their own telemetry strips
- Nurse Aides: Not available
- RT Equipment: Available - HFOV, HFJV, conventional vents, CPAP, HFNC, NC
Scheduling & Expectations - Shifts: 3 x 12-hour shifts/week (schedule released in 4-week blocks)
- Weekends: May be required every weekend
- Holidays: Possible, based on individual contracts
- Call/Standby: May be placed on standby if not needed
- Floating: May float to Pediatrics to care for NICU grads (up to 12 months old) or act as 1:1 sitter for behavioral health patients
