Interim Patient Care Manager - Psychiatric Emergency Department Overview:The facility operates a specialized 45-bed Psychiatric Emergency Department (ED) focused on the care of patients with acute behavioral health needs and psychiatric diagnoses. Although patients may present with medical comorbidities, unstable medical cases are transferred out. The ED provides 24/7 in-house security, full RT support, PCT staffing, and is supported by a multidisciplinary physician team including psychiatry and medical physicians on all shifts.
Key Facility Features:- Bed Capacity: 45 beds (max 40 in use), no fast-track/triage zone.
- Average Volume: 15-45 patients/day.
- Staffing Model: 8 RNs per shift (2 triage, 4 adult, 1 peds, 1 charge), 1:6-12 RN:patient ratio.
- Support Staff: PCTs assist with phlebotomy, EKGs, ADLs, 1:1s, transport, and patient searches.
- Clinical Services: X-ray, CT, and RT available; Telemetry used for codes only.
- Medications: Administer PO and IM psychotropics; no IVs.
- EHR: Altera (formerly Allscripts).
Leadership Structure:- Role: Patient Care Manager (PCM)
- Reports to: Director of Nursing (DON)
- Reason for Interim: Turnover in Leadership
- Orientation: 3-week orientation including classroom, inpatient exposure, and assigned unit onboarding.

Key Clinical & Operational Requirements: - Experience Required:
- 1 year minimum in psychiatry.
- Prefer medical-surgical background.
- De-escalation and restraint experience preferred.
- Certifications Required:
- BLS, ACLS, PALS (CPI preferred - will train).
- Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing is a plus.
- Education: MSN Preferred.
- Work Requirements:
- Every other weekend.
- May rotate into holiday coverage.
- May float to inpatient psych units.
- No call or standby.

- Emphasis on proper use of restraints, suicide precautions, and behavioral health protocols.
- Enhance Infection Control & Compliance:
- Focus on unit education and monitoring for improved safety and regulatory alignment.

- Expected to bring working knowledge of PI strategies and metrics related to psychiatric care.
