Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery/Mother Baby
Location: Mercy Hospital - Coon Rapids, Coon Rapids, Minnesota

Position Details - Specialty: Mother Baby Center (Labor & Delivery and Post-Partum)
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Days (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Average Daily Census:
- Labor & Delivery: 8 deliveries/day
- Post-Partum: 15 patients/day
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Labor & Delivery with post-partum experience
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Will float within scope as needed
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: No (must be outside 100-mile radius)
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Required Certifications - BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as applicable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification required and current
- Other certifications as applicable per unit/job description
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements - Sterile vaginal exam experience required
- Proficient in fetal monitoring:
- External and internal fetal monitoring
- Intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement and calibration
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience administering Pitocin (oxytocin)
- Experience managing/administering epidural anesthesia

Health & Compliance Requirements - Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Adult Tdap vaccination required (no declinations accepted; exemptions require approval)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccination series, or signed declination)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Drug testing (9-panel) within 1 year of start (not required for client clearance)
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation (2024-25 season no longer required)
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
- Background check within 1 year of start (7-year criminal check)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 1 year of start
- Fingerprinting and MN DHS Net Study Questionnaire completion required immediately after contract signing (no start without clearance)
Additional Requirements - Completion of Allina Health pre-orientation online modules within 72 hours of assignment start (approx. 11.5 hours for L&D RNs)
- Badge photo (passport style) required within 48 hours of contract signing
- Medication and competency exams required annually
- Skills checklist required annually
- Compliance with Allina Health uniform policy (scrubs provided by unit)
Scheduling & Cancellation Policy - Guaranteed hours subject to client cancellation of up to 3 shifts without penalty
- On-call hours do not count toward guaranteed minimum hours
This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with post-partum skills looking for a travel contract in a teaching hospital environment with a Level 2 trauma center. The role requires strong fetal monitoring skills and the ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts with weekend coverage every other weekend.
