Shift:Nights 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:30 - 07:00)

Unit:Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP)
License Required:Active Michigan RN License

Facility Overview:

Join a community-based hospital with a dedicated 8-bed LDRP unit, which includes 2 private triage rooms and 2 antenatal testing rooms. This Level I Nursery supports a wide patient population, from neonates to adults, and emphasizes safe, compassionate, and evidence-based maternal care

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse for a night shift travel contract. The RN will provide comprehensive care across the childbirth continuum, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum services. The ideal candidate must be flexible, reliable, and capable of floating to women's health-related units within the service line as needed.

Unit Information:

  • Unit Type:Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)
  • Beds:8 private LDRP beds, 2 triage rooms, 2 antenatal testing rooms
  • Patient Population:Neonates, Adolescents, Adults
  • Average Daily Census:4
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Laboring Patients: 1:1
    • Postpartum/Mother-Baby Couplets: 1:3-4
    • GYN Surgical Patients: 1:3
  • Float Requirements:May float within women&s services or assist with basic patient tasks in other units
Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • Active Michigan RN License(MUST be in hand at time of submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
  • Previous travel experience(recent or past)
  • Must have experience in:
    • Labor & Delivery
    • High-Risk Antepartum
    • Mother/Baby and LDRP
    • Level I Nursery
  • Charting System:Epic (preferred), IntelliSpace
  • Medication System:Pyxis
Required Certifications:
  • BLS - Basic Life Support
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate or Advanced within last 2 years)
  • AWHONN Advanced or NCC EFM Certification(MUST HAVE)
  • STABLE(Preferred)
Key Skills & Responsibilities:

Labor & Delivery:

  • Circulate and scrub for C-sections
  • Assist with vaginal and high-risk deliveries
  • Amnioinfusion, forceps/vacuum-assisted deliveries
  • Hemorrhage and shock management
  • Sterile vaginal exams

Fetal Monitoring:

  • External and internal monitoring
  • Spiral electrode and IUPC placement
  • Interpretation and management of abnormal FHR patterns

Postpartum Care:

  • Fundus/lochia/perineum assessment
  • Breastfeeding and lactation support
  • Baby-friendly protocols and discharge teaching

Newborn & Neonatal Care:

  • APGAR scoring, newborn assessments, hypoglycemia, phototherapy
  • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome monitoring
  • Circumcision support and parent education

Antepartum & High-Risk Care:

  • NSTs, reflex and edema assessments
  • Triage of obstetric patients
  • Speculum and sterile vaginal exams

Additional Duties:

  • May be required to sit 1:1 with confused patients
  • Maintain safety and follow PPE/isolation precautions
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams
Additional Details:
  • Scrubs Provided
  • 12 hours of orientation provided
  • Not accepting local candidates (within 50 miles)
  • First-time travelers will not be considered
