  • The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care to patients with needs ranging from uncomplicated to highly complex.
  • Establishes a helping relationship using a holistic approach.
  • Ensures quality and appropriateness of care for all age groups in the unit-specific patient population including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Coordinates care planning with other disciplines.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing difficult and complex aspects of the job competently and thoroughly.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development through the lifespan.
  • Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify needs and provide appropriate care as per department policies and procedures.

  • Ability to perform accurate patient assessments in accordance with physician instructions and facility policies.
  • Ability to identify changes in patient condition and notify physician appropriately.
  • Knowledge of medical diagnoses and manifestations including interpretation of clinical and laboratory data.
  • Ability to develop individualized patient care plans involving patient and family.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate patient outcomes and modify care plans accordingly.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care and carry out physician orders.
  • Ability to assist physicians in treatments, medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations as appropriate.
  • Ability to administer prescribed treatments and medications, including narcotics control.
  • Ability to start, prepare, implement, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids as ordered.
  • Ability to evaluate patient responses to care and therapies including changes in lab results, physical assessment, or mentation.
  • Participation in unit-specific quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
  • Ability to document nursing care accurately, objectively, legibly, and timely.
  • Ensures physician orders are acknowledged by end of shift and resolves complex order acknowledgment issues with Charge Nurse.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Supports effective communication and a Just Culture focused on patient safety.
