Position: Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)
Schedule: 8/10/12-hour shifts with Day/Evening/Night rotating schedules.
Requirements: Every Other Weekend (EOW), holiday rotation, on-call, callback, and charge responsibilities per unit needs.
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our Main OR team specializing in DaVinci Robotic Surgery. The RNFA collaborates closely with the surgeon and healthcare team to ensure safe operations and optimal outcomes for patients. This role combines traditional circulating and scrubbing responsibilities with RNFA duties and requires a commitment to excellence in perioperative nursing practice.
Responsibilities:
- Function as a first assistant in surgical procedures under the direction of the operating surgeon.
- Practice perioperative nursing, providing comprehensive care during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.
- Perform the duties of a circulating and/or scrub nurse when not functioning in the RNFA role.
- Maintain knowledge and clinical judgment specific to operating room and RNFA practices.
- Participate in call rotation, including evening and holiday call coverage as needed.
- Serve as a resource for robotic surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
Specialties Supported:
- Robotic Urology
- Robotic Gynecology (GYN)
- Robotic Colorectal Surgery
- Robotic Surgical Oncology (Whipples, Gastrectomies, Hernias, etc.)
- Robotic Thoracic Surgery
- Robotic General Surgery (Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy)
Qualifications:
- Current RN License (New York State Only)
- DaVinci Robotic Surgery experience required in multiple specialties
- CNOR Certification (required)
- RNFA Certification from an accredited program
- Minimum of two (2) years Operating Room (OR) experience, preferably in a Level 1 trauma center
- Proficiency in both circulating and scrubbing roles preferred
- Robotic surgery experience highly preferred
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (required)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (preferred)
- CNOR Certification (required)
