- Weekly Gross: $2,505.00 Per Week
- On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
- Stipend (Non-Taxable): $1,785.00 Per Week
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Unit at MSBI Union Square is responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to a designated group of surgical patients. The Clinical Nurse applies clinical judgment, critical thinking, and nursing theory to support patients and their families in both the acute and transitional phases of surgical care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Deliver nursing care aligned with Mount Sinai's Relationship Centered Care model
- Use nursing process grounded in theory, research, and evidence-based practice
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care needs
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and adjust care plans
- Educate patients and families about their conditions, treatments, and care transitions
- Manage assignments and resources efficiently and effectively
- Patient Experience:
- Role model Mount Sinai's key care standards (e.g., Bedside Shift Reports, Hourly Rounding, MD/RN collaboration)
- Maintain respectful, compassionate, and culturally sensitive patient and family interactions
- Use therapeutic communication and evidence-based practices to build trust and rapport
- Escalate concerns as needed to leadership or patient relations
- Quality & Safety:
- Maintain a safe care environment by identifying and addressing risks
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency relevant to surgical patient care
- Participate in continuous quality improvement and safety initiatives
- Utilize EPIC and other hospital technologies for accurate documentation
- Operations:
- Perform Charge nurse duties as needed
- Monitor supply use and staffing needs; escalate shortages appropriately
- Support effective patient throughput
- Document thoroughly and in compliance with hospital and legal standards
- Professional Development:
- Engage in lifelong learning and evidence-based practice
- Project professionalism and ethics in patient care
- Participate in shared governance, specialty councils, and nursing committees
- Foster a culture of inquiry and clinical excellence
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Active New York State RN License (unencumbered)
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
- Minimum 2 years RN experience (Med Surg/Ambulatory Care preferred)
- 1 year of travel RN experience
- EPIC EHR experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex surgical patients and collaborate in a fast-paced environment
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted with relevant experience or active enrollment in a BSN program
Work Environment:
- Acute surgical care unit in a large academic hospital setting
- Collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment
- 24/7 operations with high patient turnover and procedural interventions
This is a contract position within Mount Sinai's Agency Nursing program Candidates must be comfortable working night shifts and every other weekend
