- Post-surgical recovery unit
- Patients have secondary medical issues due to post-surgical recovery
- Surgical: Colo-rectal, vascular, GYN oncology, surgical oncology (whipples), urology (cysto, TURPs), plastics (skin flaps)
Medical: wounds from surgeries, amputations, COVID, diabetic ulcers, diabetic (with insulin gtt)

Skills required
- Surgical postop experience, PCA/epidurals, wound dressing care, wound vacs, IV skills, drain/tube management, foley management, ostomy care, NTG placement/management, small bore placement/management, cardiac rhythm interpretation
Titration of medication: heparin, insulin, ketamine, Lasix, protonix, Cardizem
Support on the Unit:
- Charge nurse: full patient assignment
- Unit secretary, 24/7
- Hospitalist, 24/7
- RT, 24/7
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with tele tech
Phlebotomy to assist with peripheral blood draws
Charting System/Equipment:
- EPIC
- Alaris
- Pyxis
- GE monitors
Sapphire epidural pumps
Floating:
- All MSU
- ED Holding - 1:4 ratio
- MS overflow
- Tele units
- PACU surge
- COVID units
Travelers will float first
Orientation:
- Based on experience and comfort level
- 4h NEO (tour, paperwork, login access, etc.)
Remainder of the shift with a preceptor
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: every other
- 4-week schedules
- No self-scheduling
- Shift: 8h or 12h

AAH adheres to a "fatigue policy" where all staff, including travelers, cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or 5 consecutive 12 hour shifts
Other notes:
- Scrub Color: Any - no camo/denim/no hoods
- Must document pain level, before and after (1 hour for oral) giving pain medications - The pain score must also meet the pain score with nth medication order-i.e. if a patient has a score of 8, the RN cannot give the Tylenol that is ordered for mild 1-3. The RN must call for an order if the patient wants Tylenol for the score of 8.
