Med Surge Hematology/Oncology 2 years experience required
Facility & Role Information:
- Unit: 5 South - Hematology/Oncology
- Beds: 32
- Patient Ratio: 1:5 typical, up to 1:6 depending on acuity; ratios adjusted for higher acuity patients
- Common Diagnoses: Hematology/oncology, chemotherapy administration
- Must-Have Skills:
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Experience in large, high-acuity facilities with surgical/complex patients
- Comfort with lines, chest tubes; hem/onc and chemo experience preferred (not required)
- EPIC charting experience required
- Certifications: BLS required (ACLS for charge nurses)
Note: ONC certification not required. Manager is willing to train the right candidate in chemo administration-an excellent learning opportunity.
Additional Requirements:
- Driver's License required upon submission - 50-mile radius rule applies
- Fingerprinting:
- Remote process available (please allow 10 days)
- In-person available at Jackson or Grenada campus (week prior to start)
- Flu Vaccine: Required - only medical exemptions with proper documentation accepted
Clinical Details:
- Titration: RNs titrate heparin. Occasional amiodarone drip may be started before transfer to cardiac
- Telemetry: All units tele-capable. Central monitoring station will communicate with RN
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor:
- Charge takes light assignment (full if needed)
- Nurse manager on-site M-F (business hours)
- Adult house supervisor after 3 PM weekdays and all weekend
- Support Staff: Nurse aides on all units
- RT Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP used at night, RT assists; High Flow used on 2N
Scheduling & Logistics:
- Shifts: 12 hours (7a-7p or 7p-7a)
- Self-Scheduling: Travelers expected to fill gaps, but block scheduling considered when possible
- Weekends: Every other or 2 weekends/month (may vary with unit needs)
- Holidays: Rotated with core staff
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Required within skillset across all Med Surg units (high acuity given to core staff)
- Scrubs: Any solid, professional color
Orientation:
- Day 1: Paperwork, attestations, system logins, unit tour, and schedule overview
- Clinical Training: 2 additional shifts with a preceptor on the unit
