Department: Emergency Room 50 mile radius for all travelers - Trauma Level: State certified Level III trauma center. Cath Lab is available Monday - Friday . Also certified as a Primary Stroke Center. - Beds/Trauma Bays: 2 Triage beds, 2 Trauma bays, 7 additional beds. - Do you have a Fast Track: No - Do you have a separate Triage area?: Yes. Travelers who have extended contracts with triage experience including being educated on our triage process do triage at times. - Do you have a separate holding area in the ER?: No, we do not hold patients in the ED. We always make sure we have an inpatient bed available. - Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms?: Yes, one room. Has video monitoring, but no audio and is for just one patient - Is Security in-house 24/7?: Yes, they float everywhere with the hospital but will primarily be in the ED. - On average, how many patients do you treat in the ER/day: Approximately 40 patients per day. - Nurse: Patient Ratios: Variable, the most would be 3-4 to 1 but that is usually for a short period of time- approximately for a few hours due the peaks and valleys on our patient arrivals. - Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC. - Common diagnoses/Types of patients : Abdominal pain, Falls, Chest Pain, about 20% of volume is pediatric. - Experience: Preferably 3 or more years of ED experience. Good communication skills and assessment skills. Prior travel experience is preferred but not required. - Common drips?: Antibiotics, cardiac, Heparin, TPA, insulin. - ED Physician/Mid-Levels: 1 ED physician which is board certified 24 hours a day. Either a NP or PA that works a mid-shift. - Charge Nurse/House Supervisor?: We have a ED charge nurse every day- charge will take patients. Facility has a House Supervisor 24/7. - Nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters? Ratios? Duties?:We use a combination of all those listed in addition to LPN's. We have one 24/7 and one mid-shift 7 days a week. - Is RT in the ER 24/7?: RT is in-house 24/7. Lab does ABG's. Our CNA's, EMT's, Paramedics, LPNs, and RN's do the 12 lead EKG's. - RT Equipment: RT will manage all of that. - Do you have Monitor Techs in the ER?: RN's are required to read their own strips. We use Phillips monitors. - X-Ray or CT in the ER?: CT and MRI are right next to ED. X-Ray will come transport the patient. The primary nurse or someone with ACLS will transport patients on cardiac monitoring. For non- monitored patients, the CNA will transport. For psych, they will come down and take the patient upstairs. - Does Phlebotomy draw labs or RN's draw?: We do a combination of both. If nurse is starting an IV then we draw the labs. - Shifts & Scheduling: We have a scheduler and try to do block scheduling.12 hour shifts- 1800- 0600. - Weekend Requirements: Travelers have usually been doing it every other weekend. - Holiday Requirements: One winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years). One summer holiday (Memorial, 4th of July, or Labor Day). - Is there call or a standby requirement?: None - Floating Requirements: None - Scrub Color/Dress Code: Gray Scrubs and they are provided. - Unit/Department specific orientation: Usually orient with another nurse 3 shifts.
