We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED) for a Rotational Shift (3x12 hours) contract position in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Position: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ED)

Role Overview:
As an ED RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing immediate care to patients experiencing life-threatening conditions or urgent medical needs. You will assess, stabilize, and treat patients while working closely with a team of physicians, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate is quick-thinking, able to manage multiple patients simultaneously, and comfortable in a high-pressure environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care and Assessment:

  • Conduct comprehensive and rapid assessments of patients in emergency situations to identify life-threatening conditions.
  • Provide critical care and stabilize patients until they are ready for further treatment or transfer.
  • Perform medical interventions such as administering medications, IVs, wound care, and CPR as needed.

Collaboration with Medical Team:

  • Work closely with physicians, paramedics, and support staff to deliver emergency care and determine treatment plans.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and team members to provide information and support during high-stress situations.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies, prioritizing patients based on the severity of their conditions (triage).

Emergency Procedures and Equipment Use:

  • Be proficient in using emergency medical equipment, including defibrillators, ventilators, and other life-saving technologies.
  • Assist with emergency procedures, including trauma resuscitation, cardiac arrest management, and stabilization of critically ill patients.

Patient Education and Documentation:

  • Provide patient education regarding aftercare instructions, follow-up appointments, and prevention of future emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document all care provided in compliance with hospital policies and regulations.

Critical Skills:

  • Strong clinical assessment skills to quickly identify critical conditions.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, including handling high-stress, life-or-death situations.
  • Proficiency in emergency protocols, including trauma care and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active South Dakota RN License (No pending licenses accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ED nursing experience
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • PALS or ENPC certification preferred
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong attention to detail

Additional Details:

  • Ratios: Typically 1:4 or 1:5, based on acuity levels
  • On-Call: As required
  • Weekend Requirement: Some weekends required depending on rotation schedule
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Local Candidates: Accepted
