Shift: Day, 3x12-hour shifts (07:00 AM - 07:00 PM)
Compensation for 36 hours: $2,400 Per Week
- Weekly Gross: $2,400.00 Per Week
- On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
- Stipend (Non-Taxable): $1,680.00 Per Week
Job Overview
Cabell Huntington Hospital's 5 North/Step-down unit is a 20-bed, all private room cardiac stepdown unit. The unit cares for patients with a mix of pulmonary, cardiac, neurological, gastrointestinal, and post-surgical diagnoses. Patients are generally stable but carry a higher risk of becoming unstable, requiring close monitoring and specialized care. The unit supports a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 to 5:1 depending on staffing. Critical drips such as Amiodarone, Esmolol, Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin are administered as needed.
Facility Highlights
- 20-bed private room stepdown unit
- Patient diagnoses include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, SVT, bradycardia, COPD, pneumonia, stroke, hip fractures, carotid endarterectomy
- Equipped with Nihon Kohden monitoring system and respiratory support devices (BiPAP, CPAP, Optiflow, home vent via trach)
- Interdisciplinary support from Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Pharmacy, and others
Job Duties
- Provide skilled nursing care for stepdown cardiac patients, including assessment and monitoring
- Administer critical drips and medications per protocol (no titration)
- Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms accurately
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
- Respond appropriately to patient changes and emergency situations in the unit
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year nursing experience in a relevant acute care or stepdown setting
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience working with telemetry and cardiac stepdown patients preferred
- Ability to maintain patient safety with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4-5:1
- Must be able to complete 20 hours orientation (non-billable)

- Travel pairs are not accepted for this position
Work Schedule & Additional Info
- Day shifts only (3x12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend coverage required
