Registered Nurse - NICU (Level III) - Night Shift - Contract Facility: Mount Sinai West - th Ave, New York, NY 10019

  • Shifts: Night Shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), Every Other Weekend Required
  • Hours per Week: 36

Compensation for 36 hours: $3,170 Per Week
  • Weekly Gross: $3,170.00 Per Week
  • On W2(Taxable): $720.00 Per Week ($20/hour)
  • Stipend (Non-Taxable): $2,450.00 Per Week
Position Overview:

Mount Sinai West is actively seeking experienced and skilled Level III NICU Registered Nurses to join its prestigious Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The RN will provide high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill neonates, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and playing a vital role in patient and family support.

Key Responsibilities: Patient Care:
  • Deliver safe, competent nursing care guided by the nursing process and evidence-based practice.
  • Conduct assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions consistent with NICU protocols.
  • Provide support to neonates with complex diagnoses and varying acuity levels.
  • Perform patient and family education throughout the continuum of care.
Patient Experience:
  • Foster therapeutic relationships using the Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care model.
  • Engage in key patient-centered care practices: bedside shift reports, hourly rounding, pain management discussions, and discharge planning.
  • Uphold empathy, compassion, and cultural competence in all patient interactions.
Quality & Safety:
  • Promote a safe environment by identifying and escalating concerns.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and institutional reviews.
  • Utilize Epic to document nursing care and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Operations & Documentation:
  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Ensure appropriate resource utilization (staffing, supplies, equipment).
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly in Epic.
  • Support patient throughput and timely admissions/discharges.
Professional Development:
  • Engage in lifelong learning and clinical development.
  • Participate in shared governance, unit-based committees, and specialty practice councils.
  • Model professionalism, ethical decision-making, and communication best practices.
Unit Information:
  • Unit Type: Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Beds: 21
  • Average Census: 18
  • Staffing Guidelines: Varies based on acuity
  • Charting System: Epic (highly preferred)
  • Support Services: Neonatology, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and lactation consultants
Required Qualifications:
  • Active New York State RN License
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - Required (non-negotiable)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Level III NICU experience
  • Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience
  • Travel experience - required for contract roles
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA only)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • EPIC charting experience
  • Experience at high-acuity or academic medical centers
  • Strong clinical references and demonstrated critical thinking in past assignments

Additional Notes:
• Candidates without required NICU experience or BSN will be automatically rejected.
• Looking for strong, confident NICU RNs able to manage complex neonatal cases.
• Night shift only; flexibility to work every other weekend is required.
