Job Title: Doctor of Nursing (Emergency Unit) Job Summary: The Director of Nursing for the Emergency Department will report to the Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services/CNO. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing nursing standards, quality improvement initiatives, and the overall management of staff and operations in the emergency unit. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in nursing leadership, ensuring patient-centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with senior leadership to establish departmental goals and policies. Oversee staffing plans, recruitment, and retention efforts to ensure optimal patient care. Provide direct supervision to nursing leadership, including Assistant Directors, Nurse Managers, and Administrative Coordinators. Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and union requirements. Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives and best practices. Work closely with other hospital departments and medical staff to enhance patient care. Participate in budgeting and resource allocation for nursing services. Facilitate professional development and continuing education opportunities for staff. Oversee counseling, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations for nursing personnel. Represent the Department of Nursing in hospital committees and initiatives. Monitor and improve patient satisfaction and service quality. Required Qualifications & Skills: Education: Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field (Doctorate preferred) OR 10+ years of relevant administrative/supervisory experience. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of nursing experience with leadership responsibilities. Certifications: Current New York State RN License Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word, quality improvement models, and regulatory compliance (NYSDOH, JCAHO). Preferred Certifications: Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR) Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Additional Information: Must be flexible to work additional hours as needed (No OT). On-call responsibilities may apply. Physically demanding role with occasional exposure to hazardous materials. Coversheet must include expected FTE salary range.
