Job Details - Provide high quality ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels for adult patients.
- Technical assistance with exercise and non-exercise stress testing.
- Perform high quality two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels.
- Identify EKG abnormalities and/or arrhythmia.
- Use M-Mode technique for measuring cardiac dimensions.
- Estimate severity of valvular insufficiencies using color flow doppler.
- Assess blood flow through the heart including velocities, stenosis, regurgitations, and shunts.
- Use contrast echocardiography when two-dimensional and color flow are suboptimal.
- Evaluate left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions and document wall motion abnormalities.
- Recognize congenital heart malformations and acquired pathologies.
- Complete studies according to updated protocols and present additional views and measurements as necessary.
- Use segmental approach for imaging cardiac structures in four echocardiographic windows.
- Operate ultrasound equipment and controls affecting data quality.
- Select appropriate transducer for optimal resolution and penetration.
- Obtain, review, and document pertinent patient history and clinical data.
- Correlate clinical history with exam and consult cardiologist as needed.
- Monitor, record, charge, and communicate using computerized documentation system.
- Prepare, instruct, and assist patients for dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms.
- Assist cardiologist in performing transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
- Communicate results to cardiologist and respond to questions.
- Maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics.
- Troubleshoot and report equipment failure.
- Participate in mobile echo/vascular service regionally.
- Participate in callback rotation.
- Assist in functional, pharmacological cardiolite, and echocardiography stress testing.
- Document procedures correctly.
- Assess patients' physical ability to perform tests.
- Interpret and clarify physician's orders.
- Provide thorough assessments in crisis situations and notify physician when necessary.
- Display proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias.
- Complete quarterly competency in stress lab, holter monitoring, and event monitoring.
Job Requirements - Minimum three (3) years of applicable experience.
- Knowledge of patient positioning, breathing techniques, and transducer positioning for optimal cardiac visualization.
- Proficient in recognizing abnormalities in cardiac structure and function and imaging artifacts.
- Knowledge of gross and sectional anatomy.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, comprehension, speaking).
- Basic computer knowledge including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browsing.
- Proficient with computers and software-driven testing machines and digital archive systems.
