  • Associate Degree in Medical Technology
  • Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel
  • Performs variety of general laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease
  • Performs routine and special laboratory tests in accordance with requisition of physician, may perform clinical tests in any one or combination of areas of specialization
    Job Requirements
  • ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification required within one year of hire
  • Mathematical skills
  • Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire
  • Reasoning and language skills at the college level
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English well
    Schedule Information
  • Regular and predictable work attendance
  • Participates in departmental 'on-call' schedule which requires a 30-minute response time

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors, and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment

  • Performs routine and special laboratory tests within
  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action
  • Provides assistance to laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems
  • Calls critical test results to physicians or nurses immediately and according to established criteria
  • Prepares test reports legibly. Initials and dates own work performed
  • Reviews reports for clerical accuracy and clinical indications
  • Performs quality-control tests
  • Runs quality-control tests according to procedure and maintains appropriate data recording
  • Analyzes quality-control data and takes appropriate corrective action when results are outside acceptable limits
  • Documents actions taken
  • Holds patient results until out-of-control situations are resolved
  • Reports unresolved situations to the Laboratory Manager
  • Observes and follows department preventive maintenance schedules
  • Documents all instrument checks, preventive maintenance, routines, problems, and corrective actions taken
  • Recognizes, analyzes, and takes corrective action to resolve instrument/clinical problems
  • Reports unresolved instrument/clinical problems to the Laboratory Manager
  • Performs clerical functions associated with the laboratory area
  • Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs
  • Performs specimen collection and processing duties as needed or assigned and according to policies established in the Phlebotomy area
  • Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training
  • Observes laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and safety practices
  • Keeps work area neat and clean, and restocks daily supplies
  • Assumes the role of leadership in the routine daily activities of the section as assigned
  • Maintains equilibrium in stressful situations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • May be assigned responsibilities for coordinating education activities
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager in inventory control and requisition of supplies
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager in quality-assurance activities
