Unit Details:
- Facility: Magic Valley Hospital
- Unit: EEG Department
- Beds Served: 250+ bed facility
Certification & Experience Requirements:
- Required Certifications: BLS, R. EEG T.
- Preferred Certification: CLTM (Certified in Long Term Monitoring)
- Required Experience:
- Long-Term Monitoring (LTM)
- Pediatric experience across all age groups, including NICU and newborns
- Comfortable working with all disabilities
- Proficient in the use of Collodion Glue
Equipment & Technology:
- EMR System: EPIC
- EEG Equipment: Natus
- Rooms/Scanners:
- 1 outpatient EEG room
- 4 inpatient EEG machines
- Expansion underway for additional machines and 24/7 service
Staffing & Scheduling:
- Current Staffing: 2 EEG Technicians (expanding to 4)
- Shift Length: 8-hour shifts
- Shift Start Times: Variable, earliest at 7:00 AM
- Orientation: 1-2 weeks side-by-side with a preceptor
- Scrub Color/Dress Code: Plain scrubs only (no patterns, neon colors, or grey)
Coverage & Call Requirements:
- Hospital Coverage: Technicians cover the entire hospital, responding to all inpatient floors as needed
- Call Requirements:
- Weeknights: Variable call (no standard night shifts)
- Weekends: Variable call with potential for scheduled weekend shifts as the department grows
- Holidays: Coverage required
- Call Response Time: Within 30 minutes
Team & Leadership:
- Lead Tech: Seger Ducharme
- Use of Assistants: None
- Neurologist Support:
- 2 Neuro-hospitalists starting July
- 3 outpatient neurologists currently on staff
Types of Studies Performed:
- Epilepsy monitoring
- ICU monitoring
- Pediatric studies (approximately one-third of patient population)
Workload:
- Average Studies per Tech per Day: 3-5 (inpatient and outpatient combined)
Additional Information:
- Flexibility and adaptability are essential due to program expansion and evolving workflow
- Strong customer service and team collaboration skills are important
- Department is transitioning to a 24/7 operation with increased portable monitoring capabilities
