Job Overview

  • Position: Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer
  • Shift: Day - 5x8-Hour (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
    • Rotates between 6:00 AM-2:30 PM and 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
  • Unit Schedules: Self-scheduling; may work either shift based on availability
  • Start Date: 6/23/2025
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes
  • Charting System: Epic (Required), ScImage (PACS)
  • Orientation: 24 hours (3 days of facility/protocol training; prelim reporting as needed)
Facility & Compliance
  • Facility Type: Acute care hospital
  • RTO Policy:
    • No RTO after booking
    • No RTO during orientation week
    • Call-offs/additional RTO may result in cancel/DNR
    • Auto-approval: 7 days or less, non-holiday RTO
    • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • COVID Vaccine: Not required
  • Flu Vaccine: Required - exemptions allowed
  • License: NC or Compact - required in hand by start
  • Local Rule: Local candidates ( lower rate
  • Modules:
    • Non-billable, must be completed pre-start
    • Acute care: 8-10 hours
Required Experience & Skills
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year
    • High-volume center experience
    • First-time travelers accepted
  • Certifications Required:
    • ARDMS RDCS (AE) or CCI RDCS
    • BLS (AHA or ARC only)
  • Skills:
    • Adult acute care, ER/ICU experience
    • 2D Echo, Bubble Study, Color Doppler, M-Mode, Portable studies
    • Contrast imaging, Diastology, LV Strain, LVAD, Impella, ECMO imaging
    • Philips ultrasound machine proficiency
    • Isolation precautions, bedside exams
  • Patient Ratio: 1:8
  • Visits per Day: 9
Unit & Clinical Details
  • Setting: Primarily inpatient/hospital based
  • May float to main outpatient department (rare)
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per contract
  • Special Procedures/Devices:
    • Impella, LVAD, ECMO, TAVR, MitraClip, LAAO
    • Pre/post device imaging required
  • Equipment:
    • Mostly Philips (hospital) and GE (outpatient)
    • Must have Philips competency
️ Notes & Restrictions
  • Floating: Possible to other units or affiliate hospitals based on skill/census
  • Travel Pairs: Allowed, must be on different units (must be declared)
  • Fatigue Policy: No more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours/week
  • Previous Employment Rule:
    • Former Novant Health/New Hanover employees must wait 12 months
    • Must disclose prior employment for rehire approval
    • Current travel per diem workers ineligible for travel contracts
