PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the trauma program at Western Missouri Medical Center. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based trauma care by coordinating multidisciplinary efforts, improving patient outcomes, and maintaining compliance with state and trauma standards. The Trauma Coordinator serves as a clinical and administrative leader, supporting the hospital's mission to provide exceptional, timely, and comprehensive trauma care to the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversee the trauma program to ensure alignment with Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) guidelines for Level III Trauma Centers.
Act as a liaison among emergency services, surgical teams, nursing units, and ancillary departments to ensure efficient trauma care.
Lead quality improvement initiatives, analyze trauma care data, and implement corrective action plans to enhance patient care.
Provide trauma-related education for hospital staff and community partners, ensuring compliance with trauma care standards.
Maintain trauma program accreditation and prepare for verification site visits by ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations.
Oversee trauma registry data collection, ensure accurate documentation, and generate reports for internal performance analysis and regulatory compliance. Utilize data to track trends, support process improvement, and optimize patient care outcomes.
Collaborate with trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, and hospital leadership to ensure effective trauma care protocols. Facilitate communication and performance review meetings with physician teams to enhance care coordination and adherence to best practices.
Promote injury prevention and trauma education through community engagement initiatives.
Prepare and participate in surveys and audits related to trauma certification programs.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the hospital's quality, regulatory, and operational goals.
Requirements:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri.
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or healthcare-related field preferred.
Minimum 3 years in trauma, emergency, or critical care nursing, with previous program coordination experience preferred.
Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), or equivalent required.
Experience in quality improvement, data management, or program coordination preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Current BLS required.
Current ACLS required.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and general office skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software.
Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
