The Trauma Performance Improvement Patient Safety Nurse (PIPS) is a key member of the trauma leadership team. This position collaborates with leadership to identify, develop and implement standards of care through performance improvement processes and is accountable for assessing the effectiveness of the standard of care. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

Works to identify issues related to the care of the trauma patient, assure timely evaluation, develop action plans and assist with the implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of those plans.

Use advanced skills in quality assessment to perform both concurrent and retrospective reviews as well as generating reports to meet the organizational and governing body needs.

Function as an educator to nursing and medical staff policies, guidelines and protocols and will be involved in the execution and compliance of evidence-based practice guidelines.

Participate in clinical educational activities for patients, including outreach programs within the community.

Implement and participate in hospital-based and outpatient research and injury prevention programs, which may include the entry and analysis of trauma data in the registry.

Establishes collaboration partnerships with all relevant parties characterized by vision, leadership, and communication.

Champions and leads proactively quality improvement/evaluation and patient safety efforts that ensure compliance with regulatory, hospital, departmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures.

Supports the design and implementation of a systematic process for monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care.


Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications:
Current Connecticut RN

Education:
BSN required

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of acute care clinical experiences

Minimum of 1 year of clinical trauma nursing experiences

Experience in Healthcare Quality/Process Improvement

Knowledge of database management and advance proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite required

Knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation, and licensing requirements
