Position Overview

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily transportation operations, including route planning, driver scheduling, and on-the-road coordination. This role ensures the timely and safe delivery of goods and maintains smooth communication between drivers, customers, and internal departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dispatch, logistics, and team leadership-especially within a union environment-and be committed to delivering excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide daily supervision and guidance to drivers, ensuring alignment with department goals and union agreements
  • Assign and monitor work to maximize efficiency and minimize delays in service
  • Train, coach, and mentor drivers on systems, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Administer performance feedback, corrective action, and progressive discipline when needed
  • Foster a positive and compliant work environment aligned with transportation safety standards

Operational Oversight

  • Coordinate and optimize delivery schedules, utilizing GPS and dispatch software
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies
  • Stay current on all transportation laws, union agreements, and internal policies
  • Serve as the liaison between drivers, internal stakeholders, and external partners to resolve issues quickly and effectively
  • Uphold food safety and logistics standards throughout operations

Qualifications

  • Experience leading transportation or logistics teams, preferably in a unionized setting
  • Knowledge of transportation safety, compliance, and food handling regulations
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in dispatch and GPS routing software
  • Clear and effective communicator with excellent organizational skills
