Training Development Specialist

What it is:

The Talent Development Specialist is vital for ensuring that team members of all levels receive the training and development needed to be successful now, and in the future. Through the development of effective staff training and development programs, new training materials, and engaging classes, this role is helping our team meet its full potential. The Talent Development Specialist will ensure consistent policy compliance, monitor course completion, passing standards, and new hire training to promote our company culture and vision in every Stellar Career.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Human Resources, this role will help promote our corporate values, and enable success through constant improvement, ensuring that we have the right people in the right place. The Training Development Specialist will assist throughout the new hire process and beyond, to ensure that we are all on a path to success.


What you'll do:

This is a salary, exempt, full-time role. Your essential duties and responsibilities will consist of:

  • Collaborate with all departments and their subject matter experts to establish staff training needs and objectives.
  • Create, develop, present, update & improve internal staff training.
  • Lead or facilitate training sessions using a variety of training techniques, both in person and remotely.
  • Develop targeted staff training for soft skills, management, employee development, and human resources compliance/regulations, etc.
  • Assess participant's learning progress through established baseline benchmarks, gauged by assessments and practical exercises.
  • Design or conduct work-related training and development programs to improve individual skills or organizational performance.
  • Continuously update relevant staff training materials such as internal employee policies, HR regulations, and other company standards.
  • Assist with developing new hire training curriculum, processes for each department and positions as necessary.
  • Explore and develop other avenues of training, such as e-learning.
  • Work closely with other HR department team members, as well as department heads to ensure that training is effective, meeting all current needs, and develop plans and timelines for next steps.
  • Develop follow up procedures with employees beyond new hire transition periods to ensure that skills and lessons are retained beyond the standard learning period.
  • Assist in developing career-path training and assessments for employees and department.
  • Assist departments in developing department SOPs, new hire training, and documentation.
  • Assist in recruitment screenings and interviews as needed.
  • Cross training within the department and other departments as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must be able to work in a hybrid work environment both the office and remotely (in the state of Florida).
  • Occasional after hours is required.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an essential function of the position and being physically present in the work environment is an essential job function.

  • Knowledge of a variety of training techniques, as well as techniques to ensure and measure effectiveness of new training plans and initiatives
  • Sound instructional design skills, or corporate training skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent active listening skills
  • Proven presentation and training facilitation skills
  • Exceptional organizational, detail oriented and documentation skills
  • Competence to build and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company and always maintain professionalism.
  • Able to work in a team environment, as well as independently when necessary.
  • Proven experience as a trainer
  • Must be flexible and able to meet deadlines in a fast-changing environment.
  • Able to work on multiple projects at time.
  • Experience creating and developing training materials, programs, presentations, and tracking outcomes.
  • Able to create class schedules within a multi department company.
  • Contact external sources for training as necessary.

2) Education, Certifications, and Software Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, or a training related field, with 3+ years' experience in training and creating curriculum, or 5+ years' experience in training and creating curriculum.
  • 3+ years' experience training fundamentals, course development, and employee assessment processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

3) Essential Physical Skills

  • Acceptable vision and hearing (with or without correction)
  • Bending on occasion and lifting up to approximately 20 pounds occasionally
  • Standing and walking approximately 2 or more hours a day
  • Talking and sitting for long periods of time, approximately 8-10 hours a day
  • Writing and/or typing for long periods of time, approximately 8-10 hours a day
