Global Support and Development is seeking to hire a Training and Development Specialist within our Training and Development Team. The position is full-time and located at HQ in Charlotte, N.C.

The Training and Development Specialist will be crucial in providing support as it pertains to the development, coordination, and delivery of training programs that will help enhance disaster response capabilities. This role will contribute to instructional design, curriculum development, and will help support facilitation efforts to ensure personnel are well-prepared for operational challenges.

Reporting to the Training and Development Manager, the Training and Development Specialist will collaborate closely with internal teams, subject matter experts, as well as external partners, to implement engaging, high-quality training solutions that align with GSD's mission and operational objectives.

  1. Assist in the design and refinement of training curricula for personnel involved in disaster response operations;
  2. Support the development and delivery of instructor-led, blended, and online training programs;
  3. Apply instructional design principles and emerging technologies to enhance training effectiveness;
  4. Contribute to the creation and revision of instructional materials, including lesson plans, facilitator guides, learner resources, online modules, and assessment tools;
  5. Assist in planning, scheduling, and executing training sessions, ensuring alignment with programmatic and operational needs;
  6. Work closely with the Training and Development Manager to track training requirements, enrollments, and completion records;
  7. Support quality assurance and iterative improvements of training materials and delivery methods;
  8. Maintain training documentation, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures;
  9. Assist in evaluating training effectiveness using feedback, assessments, and performance data;
  10. Contribute to needs assessments and gap analyses to refine curriculum development;
  11. Identify opportunities to integrate adult learning best practices into training programs;
  12. Stay informed about instructional design trends, emerging technologies, and disaster response training methodologies;
  13. Assist in the design, execution, and evaluation of training exercises that reinforce operational skills and readiness;
  14. Work collaboratively with SMEs, trainers, and leadership to ensure training content aligns with GSD's mission and goals;
  15. Support accessibility and inclusion efforts to ensure training materials meet diverse learning needs;
  16. Prompt and action GSD's core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all work we conduct;
  17. Promote good stewardship of financial and other resources to achieve maximum benefit to those impacted by disaster or at risk of impact; and
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience
  • Possess three to five years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and training facilitation - preferably in emergency management or humanitarian response;
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred;
  • Or equivalent professional experience and training.
Professional License / Certifications:
  • N/A
Knowledge / Skills:
  • Ability to analyze and adapt existing training materials to competency frameworks;
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and training analytics;
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices;
  • Experience supporting exercise design and evaluation;
  • Understanding training compliance, accessibility, and digital learning best practices;
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles, competency-based training, and e-learning methodologies;
  • Proficiency in e-learning development tools such as Articulate, Captivate or similar software;
  • Proficiency in project management process and software;
  • Proficiency in the Google Suite;
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary teams;
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously under pressure;
  • Confident and effective written and verbal communication, to include presentation ability;
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of stakeholders to build relationships;
  • Discernment for confidentiality in relation to organizational, partner, and donor activities and communications;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to rapidly shift tasks;
  • Experience working and/or traveling domestically and internationally; and
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French desired.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting and is generally sedentary, but may involve movement (e.g., walking, standing or otherwise being mobile throughout the office) for brief periods of time;

Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform work indoors in an office environment;
  • Ability to work a varied schedule to complete projects and meet deadlines in response to changing demands;
  • Ability to travel to attend meetings, industry or professional association conferences and stay overnight as required.
  • Routine domestic and international travel up to 25% is required.
