Tooling Engineer - Metal Stamping
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Tooling Engineer with a background in metal stamping to coordinate and lead engineering projects. This position works directly with the General Manager and Director of Operations to ensure successful project execution. TheTooling Engineer will take the lead on projects to meet cost targets, implementation schedules, production support requirements, and resolve field issues with products. The ideal candidate will leverage their journeyman tool and die background to drive process improvements and tooling solutions, ensuring high-quality production outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Execution: Lead engineering projects from concept through implementation, meeting cost targets and timelines.
Cross-Discipline Coordination: Collaborate with production, quality, tooling, and maintenance teams to achieve project goals.
Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve product issues, utilizing technical expertise and hands-on troubleshooting.
Tooling and Process Development: Utilize journeyman tool and die experience to develop new tooling processes and enhance existing ones.
Continuous Improvement: Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, utilizing expertise in tooling and machining to optimize production efficiency.
Technical Documentation: Develop process documentation, work instructions, and CAD models as needed.
Production Support: Provide technical guidance on tooling design, fixture maintenance, and machine setup.
Education:
Experience Preferred:
Experience in the metal stamping industry, including deep draw operations
Journeyman tool and die maker background with hands-on machining experience
Tooling and fixture design expertise
Process engineering and sheet metal assembly experience
Experience with spot, projection, and MIG welding
Knowledge of automation, robotics, vision systems, and mechatronics
Proficiency with ISO/IATF Quality Management Systems
Experience in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing concepts, APQP, PFMEA, and control plans
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, and experience with CAD and CAE principles
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence teams
Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD data and 2D automotive drawings
Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
