Reporting to the Thrift Shoppe & Volunteer Manager, the Thrift Shoppe Assistant Manager assists the Thrift Shoppe & Volunteer Manger with operating the effective and profitable operation of the store. This person is responsible for the operations of the thrift shoppe when the Thrift Shoppe & Volunteer Manager is not present, but under the direction of the Thrift Shoppe & Volunteer Manager. This includes supervising, volunteers, store presentation, merchandising and inventory rotation, customer service, store sales and store administration.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED; postsecondary education a plus.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of management experience in retail, thrift shoppe, consignment, or equivalent.
  • Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license and have reliable transportation available during business hours.
  • This position will occasionally require working during non-operating store hours and holidays, which may include restocking days and promotional evening and weekend events.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisory and Team Building
  • Foster a positive workplace and team environment through open communication.
  • Motivate and inspire store Experience Works employees and volunteers.
  • Cross-train volunteers to do various jobs within the thrift store.
  • Provide leadership through modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Learn all job functions of the store and cover for various roles when required including at other Gulfside Thrift Shoppes.
  • Respect and comply with all Gulfside policies and procedures, ensuring that volunteers are aware of, and comply with policies.
Store Presentation and Merchandising
  • Ensure a clean and organized store.
  • Ensure proper signage and store displays are updated on a regular basis.
  • Ensure stock is rotated regularly and merchandise is organized and displayed to maximize sales.
  • Operate the store to maximize product on the sales floor.
  • Ensure consistent and quality sorting and pricing of donations.
Customer Service
  • Set example in customer service for volunteers and employees by welcoming and responding to customers in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Ensure customer concerns are addressed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Create a non-judgmental and supportive environment for Gulfside staff, volunteers and customers.
Store Administration
  • Assist the Store Manager with the scheduling of volunteers to ensure effective coverage.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, ensure timesheets for temporary contract employees and volunteers are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in maintaining cash handling procedures and standards to record, balance, and deposit daily sales. Report and document any variances in cash.
  • Assist the Store Manager with daily and monthly reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist the Store Manager with ordering supplies and maintaining appropriate supply levels.
  • Assist the Store Manager in achieving or surpassing monthly sales goals.
Health, Safety, and Security
  • Ensure and maintain a safe working environment for employees in the store.
  • Report any workplace incidents on a timely basis.
  • Secure store premises on a daily basis.
  • Ensure donations and garbage left outside store premises are picked up in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that loss prevention processes and policies are consistently implemented.
Other
  • This position will occasionally require working during non-operating store hours and holidays, which may include restocking days and promotional evening and weekend events.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work in a fast paced environment with grace and good humor.
  • Good conflict resolution and management skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to be self motivated.
  • Ability to train and develop team members, solve problems with good judgment, delegate responsibilities and make decisions independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word). Strong customer service focus
  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment preferred.
  • Physically fit and the ability to properly lift heavy items.
  • Post secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
