Job Description Summary

Supports the development and verification of test methods. Develops detailed test procedures, and instrumentation and configuration definition, needed to perform the test and minimize risk within the constraints of the test plan. Develops solutions to calibration systems problems of limited scope and impact. Designs test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements. Uses analytical tools to verify the design. Analyzes, processes, and formats data to customer requirements. Reviews test data, including off-nominal data, for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer. Prepares and publishes test reports to document test results and satisfy requirements. Presents test results internally. Archives data and reports. Trains others. Works under general direction.

The Boeing Company is looking for a Thermal Development Lab (TDL) Operations Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA.

This position is an engineer responsible for safe operation of a test facility (TDL) that includes pumps, compressors, valves, instrumentation, and other equipment with multiple process flows operating at a wide range of temperatures and pressures. Multiple positions are needed to support 24 hours/day, 7 days/week operations.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate, Experienced and Senior Level Thermal Development Lab (TDL) Operations Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Directs and coordinates all facility activities during the shift to ensure safe and efficient operations and maintenance
  • Coordinates with personnel requesting test services to plan and execute testing
  • Controls and monitors facility equipment and data to execute the operating plan and to identify anomalies
  • Directs technicians and other personnel to ensure proper execution of the planned shift activities
  • Develops modifications to the planned shift activities and schedule as necessary to accommodate unforeseen situations
  • Analyze facility performance and develop recommendations for improved performance
  • Develops and executes troubleshooting plans in response to anomalies
  • Develops, creates, and maintains documentation that supports both internal and external regulatory requirements including EHS
  • Develops operating and maintenance procedures
  • Directs and coordinates outside vendors and personnel from other Boeing groups for shift activities supporting facility operation and maintenance
  • Prepares shift documentation and coordinate with incoming shift to effect smooth shift turnover
  • Performs surveillance on equipment via walk-arounds
  • Operates valves and moves lightweight supplies and equipment
  • Works under minimal direction
  • Good "Attention to Detail" and organization skills
  • Good communication skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse audience
  • Basic capability with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry; or a STEM degree.
  • Experience supporting the operation and maintenance of facility equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, instrumentation, and heat exchangers
  • Experience developing, troubleshooting procedures, diagnose and troubleshoot equipment technical issues
  • Experience with fluid flow/pressure drop principals, rotating machinery, and thermodynamics principals
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Level 3: 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience as a lead or supervisor responsible for operation and/or maintenance in a facility with pumps, compressors, valves, and instrumentation.
  • 2 or more years of experience operating with cryogenic systems
  • Outstanding communication skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse audience
  • Proficient capability with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Adjudicated Counter Intelligence scope polygraph completed within the last 5 years
  • A current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program is desired.
