The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.
This position is located in the Recreation/Activities Department of the Northeast LA Veterans Home in Monroe, Louisiana. This is a full-time position.
Conduct therapeutic recreational activities in group settings and individual settings. Directs and organizes sports, games, arts and crafts. and exercise to encourage socialization and develop confidence needed to participate in group activities.
Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating patient progress/treatment plans. Prepares progress charts and periodic reports for medical staff and other members of the treatment team, reflecting patients' reactions and evidence of progress or regression.
Organizes and conducts special therapeutic recreation outings , such as ball games, rodeos, sightseeing, picnics, museums, and field trips. Performs CNA services for residents when away from facility.
Assists in supervising, coordinating and training volunteers, students workers, senior workers, and CNA recreation therapy aide.
Escorts resident to and from activities.
Supervises resident worker .
Assists in maintaining inventory/equipment/materials.
Assists in developing monthly Activity Calendars.
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience as a teacher, instructor, or counselor in a recreational program plus one year of experience in recreation therapy; OR
A bachelor's degree in a rehabilitation, recreation, or therapy field, a physical education field, or psychology plus one year of experience in recreation therapy; OR
Possession of certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in accordance with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification plus one year of experience in recreation therapy.
