Position Concept The Telecommunicator I performs public safety communication tasks involving the reception of emergency and non-emergency telephone calls in the Joint Communications Center. Members in this assignment may be required to act as a trainer.
The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.
The Telecommunicator I may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position.

Essential Functions
- Operate computer

- Initiate a public safety field response, provide information, make referrals or take messages
- Provide emergency medical/fire/law enforcement pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions to callers reporting emergencies
- Maintain professional training
- Process the call for service or assistance in accordance with established procedures
- Complete required forms, documents, computer fields, etc. accurately and quickly
Education, Professional Certification or License
- High School or GED
- FCIC/NCIC certification within one year of employment
- Successfully complete Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) Certification within six months of employment (as required for position assignment)
- Successfully complete CPR, and TDD training within six months of employment
- Complete FEMA Incident Command System courses (ICS 100, 200, 242,700, and 802)
- Successful completion of positional exams
- Complete the DOH State Certification course for Emergency 911 Telecommunicators or obtain within six (6) months
Professional Experience
- Demonstrated keyboarding proficiency of 35 wpm with no more than 5 errors
