Job Description:

Summary:
The PBX, Operator II is responsible for managing all communications related to telephone and overhead communications. The Operator will monitor multiple alarms (main facilities and outpatient buildings) and serves as communication and dispatch point for all hospital codes. The Operator maintain physician and department on-call schedules, as well as to swap malfunctioning pagers, and maintain appropriate code group assignments to said pagers. This individual will maintain a variety of lists, to include but not limited to, physician offices, their contact numbers, local emergency, and healthcare related businesses and organizations. The Operator may act as answering service for physicians and select departments. Additionally, the Operator will collect data for metrics required for efficient operation of the department and organization. The Operator will act as information desk for facilities and receptionists for some facilities. The Operator is responsible for maintaining and controlling the dissemination of patient information ensuring confidentiality of said information. The Operator will maintain a regiment for testing various emergency equipment - phones, pagers, alarms, etc. The Operator will perform methodical troubleshooting for phone, pager and pager system outages in order to provide a speedy recovery for critical equipment.

The Sycamore Shoals Operators also act as backup cashier and perform registration of interlabs and pre-registration of Physical Therapy. After normal registration operating hours and weekends, the Operator will act as front desk and information booth personnel as well as patient check out.

Requirements:
Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, with team members, physicians, patients and the public is a necessity. Typing/keyboarding, basic computer knowledge, Microsoft Office and Outlook applications, and operation of office equipment skills required. PBX experience preferred.
