The Junior Telecommunications Engineer supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunications systems on various projects. This role assists senior engineers and project teams in ensuring that telecom systems meet project requirements and are delivered on time and within budget. The engineer will gain hands-on experience in telecommunications engineering, including working with transport systems, telecom towers, and radio systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the design and implementation of Telecommunications systems, including subsea/terrestrial fiber optics, microwave, and VSAT.
• Support construction and commissioning teams, ensuring compliance with hazardous area requirements (Class I, II, III / Division I, II / EXd, EXi, Exe / ATX zones).
• Help manage the installation and financial aspects of infrastructure projects, including telecom towers, antennas, and radio systems (VHF, MF, UHF).
• Provide technical support and quality assurance for telecommunications requirements, including voice systems, PAGA, CCTV, and access control.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to resolve technical challenges and share knowledge.
• Review technical specifications, procurement packages, and vendor data for LAN/WAN/switches/routers.
• Coordinate interface requirements with various teams and liaise with project management and contractors.
• Monitor contractor activities and compliance and assist in preparing technical specifications.
• Support procurement, bid evaluations, and develop installation, testing, and maintenance plans.
• Maintain weight and electrical load control reports.
• Assist in resolving design-related issues and interfaces and advise on emerging issues within telecommunications design.
• Participate in plant checkout, start-up, and review lessons learned for project applicability.
• Help manage delivery schedules, milestones, and collaborate on execution plans to ensure quality control.
• Develop and implement innovative solutions to non-routine problems, expanding influence beyond core technical disciplines.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred.
• Strong organizational, team building, and communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of telecommunications and computing systems.
• Analytical skills to make accurate and effective design decisions in complex situations.
• Understanding of:
o Transport systems (subsea/terrestrial fiber optics, microwave, VSAT)
o Telecom towers and antennas
o Radio systems (VHF, MF, UHF)
o Voice systems
o Public Address/General Alarm (PAGA)
o CCTV and access control
o LAN/WAN/switches/routers
o Hazardous area requirements (Class I, II, III / Division I, II / EXd, EXi, Exe / ATX zones)
• Ability to manage multiple projects within short timeframes.
• 0-3 years of experience in Telecommunications engineering or related fields.
