SUMMARY
This position is primarily responsible for installing and troubleshooting mobile voice and data communications equipment in a Public Safety environment. He/she maintains broadband wireless mobile data equipment utilizing IP networks, public safety software applications such as Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD), Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), and communications console equipment.
Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Safety for Technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains mobile and fixed infrastructure field technology equipment. Ensures the overall reliability of communications systems, backup networks and technology, and related hardware and software;
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with administration, field users, vendors, and the public. Always maintains a professional workplace and ensures that the highest degree of customer service skills are utilized without compromise;
- Develops and maintains teamwork and promotes positive morale;
- Assumes position in on-call rotation to include after hours, holiday, and weekend duties after sufficient training;
- Works independently with little guidance and supervision, with some latitude for independent judgment, initiative, leadership, and resourcefulness on operational and administrative matters;
- Monitors overall performance of communications equipment and makes notifications or repairs when appropriate;
- Prepares and maintains records and reports as required by local and state laws, and policies and procedures of the Department;
- Inspects, monitors, and reports the need for preventative maintenance and repairs of Communications Center equipment, systems, premises, supplies, and installations within the facility;
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Credentials Bachelor's degree in a Public Safety Technology related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Driver's License.
Subject to criminal background check.
Experience and Skills Knowledge of and experience configuring/troubleshooting Microsoft Windows OS.
Knowledge of IP Networking, DHCP and DNS.
Knowledge of telephony, computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) equipment, and public safety field and communications functions.
Experience with broadband modems / Cradlepoint solutions is preferred.
Experience with Motorola/P25 Radio Solutions preferred.
Strong technical troubleshooting skills.
Excellent oral presentation and writing skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Office environment (50%) / Visiting field agencies (50%).
Must be able to attend meetings both on and off site at various hours.
This is an Essential Employee position. Essential employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies.
Ability to sit, stand, and operate a keyboard & mouse for moderate periods of time.
Ability to work during all weather conditions.
Ability to do light level physical work that would include reaching, pulling, bending, and lifting.
Ability to use fine motor skills to run wiring and program/operate electronic equipment within vehicles with limited access or in small, confined areas.
