Work Arrangement: On-site Spear AI is seeking an experienced technician with maritime experience. You will be
part of a cross-functional team designing, building, testing, and deploying unmanned
maritime sensor systems. The initial focus is on acoustics but will quickly expand to
other modalities, including mobile systems. Spear AI serves the national security industry and provides hardware, software, and
data solutions that span levels of classification and are intended for operational
deployment. Spear AI is a rapidly growing company with a commitment to the rapid
development of excellent products through continuous fielding. You will be in the lab and
out on the water frequently. Responsibilities
You will initially be the primary technician at Spear AI, with the expectation that the team
will grow over time. As such, you should have at least some level of skill in each of the
following areas. This position is intended to be a high-level, jack-of-all-trades technician
role, with future hires expected to provide deeper expertise in specific domains. Mechanical Fabrication - Fabricate and assemble mechanical components and systems for sensor systems and buoys. Electrical Fabrication - Build wiring harnesses, assemble electrical components, and battery packs. Testing - Test components, subsystems, and systems in the lab and field with limited documentation and procedures. Troubleshooting - Troubleshoot systems in the lab and field. Interact with engineers to elicit needed information and improve documentation. Maritime Operations - Organize and eventually lead maritime test operations, including deployment, maintenance, and recovery of instrumentation systems from small boats. Training - Mentor new operators and technicians as Spear grows. Collaborate with engineers and trainers to develop materials for customer operator training (may include active-duty personnel). , Engineering Interaction - Provide feedback to engineers on design durability, documentation, maintainability, and more. Over time, act as a feedback hub for other technicians. Requirements Exemplary attention to detail, a focus on quality, and an uncompromising approach to safety. Broad mechanical fabrication experience, including (but not limited to): additive manufacturing, basic machining, composites, welding, and assembly. Broad electrical fabrication experience, including: wiring harnesses, board population and repair, and battery pack assembly. Experience testing components and systems, including: system turn-on, pressure testing, cable verification, visual and measurement inspection. Maritime operations experience, including: small boat handling, over-the-side deployment, field repair, and test logistics. Strong written and verbal communication skills suited to a high-performance development team. Physical ability to participate in at-sea operations, including lifting, carrying, small-boat maneuvering, verbal communication, and fine manipulation. Must be a U.S. Citizen. You may be asked to obtain a SECRET security clearance (at no cost to you). CIA background requirements can help explain eligibility. Desired Additional Qualifications Experience with mechanical CAD, especially SolidWorks. Experience with wiring harness documentation. USCG Captain's License or extensive experience operating small boats. Prior leadership experience. Veteran status or strong familiarity and comfort working with both enlisted and commissioned military personnel.
