Contact: Judy Bolton, Sr. Technical Recruiter Mindbank Consulting Group has an immediate need for an experienced Technical Writer for a mostly remote position based out of Washington, DC. (Some onsite work will be required; candidates must be located within commuting distance.) This position requires an active Secret clearance. Salary is from $75,000 - $85,000 and is based on each candidate's professional experience and skills. In this role, you will create technical documentation in a Government-specified (Department of Defense) template and format. The deliverables are documents such as System Architecture, System Design, Database Design, Interface Control, System Requirements Specification, Requirements Traceability Matrix, Integrated Test Plans and Test Descriptions, Test Reports, Software Installation Plans, Software Version Description, Deployment Instructions, etc. You must have experience writing technical documentation in Department of Defense (DOD) templates and format. Majority of the documentation will be written from scratch, i.e., there is no existing documentation. You are expected to quickly learn the various components of the system, interview staff to gather details, and be able to produce this documentation with minimal supervision. The deliverables must meet quality standards set by the Government which expect that deliverables satisfy 100% of their requirements and contain, at most, minor errors. The material in the deliverable must be presented in a logical and unambiguous manner. The contents must be accurate and complete. Conclusions must be fully supported by the content in the document. Technical Writer Responsibilities:
• Use excellent written skills to produce documentation with minimal supervision.
• Produce technical documentation that meets the quality standards set by the Government. (E.g., documentation that adheres to the DOD templates and format.)
• Learn existing application quickly to be able to generate the content for the technical documentation.
• Work with staff to gather details and content for the documentation. For some staff members, English is not their first language. Ability to translate information from staff into usable content.
• Attend Daily Scrum meetings and become a part of the Agile team.
• Take screenshots, produce charts and diagrams to be used in the documentation.
• Use good verbal communication skills coupled with strong listening skills.
• Contribute on an individual basis as well as demonstrate your strengths as a team player as a member of an agile team. Technical Writer Qualifications: Please make sure you provide technical detail in your resume so I can see you are qualified.
• U.S. Citizen with an active Secret clearance.
• Must have a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in computer science/systems, information systems/technology, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, or business/finance. Three years of additional applicable experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's or Associate's degree
• 3 years' experience as a technical writer
• 3 years writing technical documentation that adheres to DOD templates and format
• Experience with XSD, XSLT, XML a huge plus
• Ability to learn a system quickly (for purposes of documentation)
• Knowledge of SubVersion or GIT version control system a plus
• Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence a plus Why should you work for Mindbank?
