POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge for identifying, investigating, and resolving quality issues and client concerns. Assists with root cause analysis and creation of preventative action plans.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for complex problem solving of technical, computer, interdepartmental, and quality issues as well as client concerns. Integrates technical knowledge and clinical relevance into evaluation of quality issues and identification of potential quality improvement projects.
  2. Investigates a variety of issues such as mislabeled delayed specimens, SBAR's, aged pendings, reportable quality events, client and/or patient complaints, and other requests delegated by department leadership. Performs and documents root cause analysis. Develops and assists department leadership in implementation of preventative action plans.
  3. Assists in identification and resolution of service issues related to workflow efficiency, complaints and special projects. Responsible for investigating and documenting research and findings related to complaints and problems in areas of quality and service.
  4. Collaborates with hospital and laboratory risk department, system quality department, sales and marketing, and other departments as required to research issues. Monitors and ensures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements for the laboratory. Active in department and LSA/SQL System quality assurance activities.
  5. Audits results, records, reports and procedural practices to monitor compliance with standard operating procedures and regulatory agencies. Proposes changes to standard operating procedures or need for development of same. Helps identify training opportunities.
  6. Serves as a resource communication liaison for on-site and system issues. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service. Demonstrates preceptor and coaching skills and promotes a constructive environment that encourages learning and development.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY

Department and LSA/SQL System. Internal Customers: Employees of the system, physicians, nursing. External Customer - Nurses, physicians, office personnel, vendors, service reps etc. Involved in interdepartmental communication and activities. This position requires a high level of critical thinking and problem solving skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS

Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Use material handling equipment to push/and or pull up to 75 pounds and required to lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity. Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids, chemical, electrical and biological hazards. Ability to distinguish colors and to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly. Requires use of personal computer , printers, copiers, telephone, fax and department specific equipment.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • High level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to communicate well with others.
  • Intermediate level experience with Word, Excel, Outlook.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
  • One (1) year experience in non-waived testing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • MLS or Specialty Certification.
