The Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) is looking for a Technical Support Specialist to join our high-performing Technology Management and Innovation Team. This role is key player in maintaining operational efficiency, tasked with providing swift technical support and training, resolving issues, and optimizing technology use. This role involves prompt response to support requests, effective training delivery, and diligent issue tracking, all aimed at enhancing organizational productivity. HACA has been a leader in affordable housing in the City of Austin for more than 85 years. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, local government entities, and numerous non-profit agencies, HACA provides access to safe, stable housing to over 20,000 individuals.

What you will do in this position:

Technical Support & Troubleshooting
  • Responds to technical support requests via telephone, email, chat, and work orders, ensuring timely and effective assistance for agency staff.
  • Documents, tracks, and monitors technical problems to facilitate timely resolution.
  • Performs all set-up tasks for new computers and new staff while maintaining equipment inventory.
Training & User Assistance
  • Aids and trains staff in hardware and software functionality.
  • Provides assistance and training for Google Workspace (Gmail, Intranet, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and mobile accessibility).
  • Offers assistance and training for Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and other applications).
  • Provides new employee orientation for telephone and computer systems.
Technology & Process Improvement
  • Interacts with staff to identify processes that can be improved with technology.
  • Discusses staff technical concerns, issues, and new ideas with the TMI Director.
  • Performs administrative duties for the TMI Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
More about this position:

Qualified candidates must possess:
  • Associate's degree (or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school) and one year of experience, OR three years of related experience/training, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred candidates will also possess the following skills and abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or four to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree or certification in computer technology from an accredited business college.
  • Experience working with computer systems, troubleshooting, and software/hardware installation.
  • Working knowledge of hardware and software for Dell PCs and Servers running various Microsoft Server operating systems.
  • Experience in Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
  • Basic experience with Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Basic knowledge of VOIP telephone systems and WAN/LAN architecture.
  • Strong understanding of general office procedures, business communication, and arithmetic.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for maintaining effective and courteous relationships with employees and business contacts.
  • Bondability.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License, good driving record, and copies of diplomas and/or transcripts required.
