Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Technical Support Specialist to join our team. This position will provide comprehensive technical support to school districts, in the Amarillo, TX area. The engineer will ensure that all IT infrastructure is optimized for reliable and secure operation. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, experience working with school districts, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day desktop and networking support for multiple school districts, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of devices such as Chromebooks and networking infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve device and networking issues related to connectivity, speed, security, and performance.
- Work closely with school district IT teams to understand their specific needs and ensure the infrastructure aligns with district goals.
- Monitor network performance and perform regular system checks to ensure optimal uptime and security.
- Collaborate with vendors and third-party service providers for equipment procurement, warranty claims, and technical support.
- Assist with device and network upgrades and system enhancements, including firmware and software updates.
- Provide remote and on-site support for staff and faculty experiencing system issues.
- Document network configurations, processes, and procedures for consistency and compliance.
- Maintain a strong understanding of current networking trends, tools, and best practices to improve service delivery.
- Support the implementation of security protocols to safeguard the district's network from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and assist with maintaining network continuity in the event of system failures or outages.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience in networking support, specifically with school districts or educational institutions.
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, etc.).
- Proficiency with networking hardware (e.g., Cisco, Ubiquiti, Aruba) and software tools.
- Proficiency with desktop break fix, imaging, and repair.
- Experience with firewall configuration, network security, and troubleshooting network performance issues.
- Knowledge of wireless networks, including configuration and troubleshooting of wireless access points and controllers.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or similar networking certifications.
- Experience with cloud-based networking solutions and technologies.
- Knowledge of network monitoring and management tools (e.g., Nodeware).
- Familiarity with the specific networking needs of K-12 schools and district-wide systems.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with a typical work schedule of 8am-5pm (Hour Lunch).
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to accommodate school schedules or to complete system maintenance.
- Travel between school district locations is required.
