Job Description: Be responsible for the successful planning and completion of a variety of engineering and supportive tasks associated with the Compliance Assurance Organization, Organization Designation Authority, FAA, EASA and other foreign civil aviation authorities. Lead, generate, process, and support the review of engineering documentation required for certification programs from project start to closure. Prepare, develop, review, and approve complex certification documentation. Coordinate with ODA designees and the FAA to resolve complex certification issues. Be responsible for tracking project tasks assignments, status, and estimated completion dates for assigned projects and for the overall certification team. Recommend strategies to improve existing processes and create new processes where needed. Provide formal and informal mentoring and guidance to other engineers. Review and approve group deliverables (certification plans, summary compliance reports, correspondence, noise data sheets, etc.). Make authoritative decisions and recommendations for problem solution through application of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts in areas where engineering precedents are lacking. Serve as a recognized leader and an authority in multiple areas of certification. Present certification requirement recommendations to multi-disciplinary design teams and upper management. Research and determine impact of NPRMs or potential changes to guidance material (industry or regulatory) to apply to future design development. Recommend strategy for group processes, tools, deliverables, and responsibilities. Develop and present briefings on certification strategy and status to organization leadership and regulatory authorities as assigned. Develop work methods and standard operating procedures for certification methods, processes, and tools. Recommend improvements to existing processes. Author issue papers and assist in preparation of applicant response. Participate in industry conferences, working groups, and/or committees related to aviation certification as assigned. Utilize delegated authorities under the GAC ODA (Engineering Authorized Representative, Alternate Administrator, etc.) as applicable. Participate in FCAA validation activities and reviews of deliverables as a Subject Matter Expert. Minimum Requirements: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field required. Thirteen years of engineering experience required, including any experience with: FAA Orders 8110.4 and 8100.15, FAA 14 CFR Part 21 and Part 25, writing certification plans and test plans, creation of compliance check lists required for STC projects, testing and certification requirements for seating systems used in business aircraft, and an understanding of the FAA and the ODA. In lieu of a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field and 13 years of experience, a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field and 11 years of the above-listed experience OR a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field and 9 years of the above-listed experience is acceptable.
