As a Technical Lead at Orthomerica, you will be at the forefront of driving the architecture and technical direction of commercial-grade software solutions that support the orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) manufacturing ecosystem. Reporting to the Senior Software Manager on the Advanced Technology team, your work will focus on solving complex challenges in 3D graphics, mathematical computation, and AI-assisted design-developing applications that improve clinical decision-making and streamline manufacturing workflows. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll design and implement core components, guide system architecture, mentor developers, and collaborate across departments including engineering, manufacturing, and clinical operations

Responsibilities Include

Lead the design and implementation of scalable systems for 3D rendering, geometric processing, and AI-driven features.

Architect and optimize solutions for large-scale data processing using linear algebra and computational geometry.

Direct development of proprietary algorithms for AI/ML, including data analysis, object detection, and assistive tools.

Guide and mentor developers at all levels through code reviews, technical leadership, and onboarding.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align product direction, system design, and regulatory requirements.

Prototype advanced visualization tools and experimental features that push the boundaries of 3D and AI tech.

Integrate and manage third-party libraries, toolkits, and data formats (e.g., STL, OBJ, 3MF) into core platforms.

Interface with hardware teams to ensure seamless data flow from scanners, sensors, and 3D capture devices.

Promote best practices in coding standards, CI/CD workflows, testing, documentation, and secure development.

Present technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders with clarity and strategic insight.

Monitor emerging technologies and evaluate their potential for integration into future product roadmaps.

Contribute to system verification and validation in alignment with ISO 13485, FDA, HIPAA, and GDPR standards.

Identify and mitigate technical risks related to scalability, performance, and compliance.

Mandatory Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.

7+ years of hands-on software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership or principal engineering role.

Strong expertise in object-oriented design, core data structures, and algorithmic problem-solving.

Proven track record of driving architectural decisions and guiding long-term codebase development.

Bonus Points if you Have

Deep expertise in real-time graphics technologies such as WebGL, OpenGL, or similar frameworks.

Hands-on experience with 3D simulation, animation systems, or CAD/CAM software platforms.

Strong background in AI/ML tools applied to computer vision, object detection, or pattern recognition.

Proficiency with shader programming and scripting languages (e.g., GLSL, HLSL).

Solid understanding of mathematical modeling, numerical methods, and performance optimization.

Advanced programming skills in modern C , Python, and/or JavaScript.

Familiarity with regulated environments, especially medical device development under ISO 13485 or GxP standards.

Proven leadership in guiding engineering teams and mentoring developers across experience levels.
