Job Summary

Responsible for the direction, coordination and evaluation of the maintenance department in their reporting line and oversee the installation, repair and upkeep of plant property, including machines, mechanical systems, electrical systems, buildings and other structures. This position will provide supervision and leadership support to the team, including troubleshooting, machine diagnostics and day-to-day technical support of the operations group, capital project management, leadership of continuous improvement projects, training of operations group personnel, and support of safety improvement projects. Manage the Preventative Maintenance Program and generally oversee all equipment installation and maintenance. Assists operations and maintenance in the electrical, mechanical, operational and housekeeping PM's through SAP program. Maintain PM program through SAP program and help create mechanical repair processes to improve the troubleshooting skills for mechanics and electricians.


Primary Duties

  • Diagnostics of equipment, root cause analysis in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic and mechanical breakdowns.
  • Install used compaction equipment as required.
  • Assist on major plant modifications, installations and repairs.
  • Provides support to keep equipment operational by being involved in maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures.
  • Fully understands the production processes, knowledge of raw material, quality control, costs, machine functions and capabilities in order to maximize the effective manufacture of the end product.
  • Assist the Health and Safety Committee in the development of Risk Assessments for maintenance related tasks.
  • Accountable for safety devices audit and functionality, making sure LOTO is working correctly and being used by all team members.
  • Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
  • Refurbish and test-run used equipment.
  • Responsible for successful implementation of respective department strategy (goals/objectives).
  • Works closely with EHS Manager and Maintenance Manager on any projects concerning Environmental projects for the plant.
  • Manage the routine (daily, weekly, monthly etc.) activities typically associated with the Maintenance function at plant level in compliance with the standards set by the Group.
  • Ensure that those employed in the Maintenance function have the knowledge and skills, encourage their development and flexibility, co-ordinate their work, and provide guidance and support whenever necessary.
  • Advise management at the earliest opportunity of any concerns he/she may have regarding the Performance of the department and/or its processes.
  • Strive for best in class Maintenance function within the Industry / Set the Industry Standard, adapting new ideas, concepts from others within and outside industry.
  • Manages together with Operations Manager and General Manager the maintenance budget and spend.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and maintenance costs to identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Manage contractors for maintenance repair and installation activities.
  • Manage contractor's weekly timesheets; including taxable, non-taxable, outage work, and emergency work.
  • Evaluate the PM Program to improve the implementation of preventative maintenance processes - monitoring uptime percentages, investigate repeat mechanical failures, develop strategies to increase uptime through SAP. Monitoring of Downtime causes per machine and prepares reporting of KPI's to track improvement and progress.
  • Evaluate critical parts stock to assure we have all critical parts in stock through SAP.
  • Follow up on progress of work list for each mechanic by assuring all parts are available to him on the time PM/WO is scheduled through SAP.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Lead man by using parts trends analysis in SAP and provide exact preventive maintenance program.
  • Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information through SAP and Amtech.
  • Minimize downtime and increase machine efficiency by scheduling, overseeing, and performing preventative and if possible predictive maintenance on all machinery.

Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • 10 + years' experience in maintenance within the Corrugated industry (converting preferred), in the following functions: Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Process Improvement; preferred.
  • Certified in Machine Safety Diagnostics and Industrial Machinery Safety Solutions implementation.
  • Degree in Automation.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate & develop both senior and junior level staff
  • Bachelor's degree, process focused (Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineer, Industrial Management, Mechanical Engineering).
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
  • Bright, fast learner, gets involved with work and results oriented.
  • Proficient in SAP program.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English, Spanish (advantage).
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail orientated and self-motivated individual (proactive attitude).
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, learn quickly and follow established processes.
  • Self-motivated and committed individual.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Able to work safely and effectively on an independent basis, with minimal and/or no supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Industrial Safety Standards including but not limited to OSHA.
  • Cutting, welding, fabrication experience as well as hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with baler or compactor repairs preferred, but not required.
  • PLC Troubleshooting experience a plus.
