Education Required: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Program Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a related field Experience No prior experience required Skills Provides care as appropriate to age of population served. Proficient in safely providing all routine and emergent respiratory modalities. Able to assess patients and provide patient care per protocol. Provide accurate and appropriate electronic documentation. Provide accurate and appropriate education to patients, students and new staff. Licensure/Certification/Registration Missouri State License for Respiratory RRT credential from the NBRC Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training will vary within the areas in which you are assigned: Must obtain BLS within 90 days of hire for all areas Must obtain PALS within 365 days of hire for working in the Pediatric floor and in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Must obtain ACLS within 365 days of hire for working in critical care unit Must obtain NRP within 365 days of hire for working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Position Competencies: Competencies are essential skills needed to be successful in a position. Department Performance: Responsible for the quality of services to enhance the experience of all customers, both internal and external. Patient Care: Performs patient assessment and data collection necessary to formulate or follow a goal directed plan of care based on medical diagnosis and patient outcomes. Provides care in a knowledgeable, skillful manner consistent with predetermined standards for best practices in the areas you are assigned to work. Demonstrates proficiency in administering oxygen and medication per protocol in the adult population. Possesses critical thinking and decision making skills necessary to appropriately assess and provide best practice adult ventilator and Non-invasive (BiPAP) care for adult patients utilizing protocols and diagnostic data. Demonstrates proficiency in adult airway management including extubation, securing and repositioning the ET tube, Suctioning, and providing CPR and manual ventilation. Demonstrates proficiency in routine and emergent care with all respiratory modalities if working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Neo-vent, Surfactant, Nitric Oxide Demonstrates proficiency in routine and emergent care with all respiratory modalities if working in the Pediatric floor and in the Pediatric Intensive C are Unit (PICU): Ped-vent, Continuous treatment. Arterial Blood Gases, draw arterial samples from radial, brachial, femoral sites and/or arterial lines per procedure manual; receive samples form arterial lines, OR, OB, Physician, referring institution. Draw capillary samples. Order, analyze and result samples. Pulmonary Function Testing: Spirometry, Lung Volumes, Diffusion, and Bronchial- Provocation. EKG: Provide testing and report results per procedure. Holter Monitor: Set up monitor and provide instruction to patient Patient Rights/Legal Issues: Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to the rights of the patient/significant other and to legal and safety issues in all aspects of patient care. Adheres to Patient's Rights to Privacy Policy and HIPPA. Accepts patient/family refusal of treatment. Understands a Sentinel Event and how to report. Completes Incident reports as indicated. Adheres to hospital sexual harassment and hostile work environment guidelines. Current on and responds to all patient emergencies (Rapid Response Team, Code Blue, trauma team and disaster alerts). Follow hospital OSHA and Infection Prevention guidelines. Check two patient identifiers before performing any procedure on a patient. Make sure a physician order for protocol exist and clarify questionable orders. Label all specimens clearly and correctly per departmental policy. Log off of the computer when you leave it.
