About the role Ko te mahi nei

As the Team Leader Network Operations, you will lead a dedicated team responsible for the daily operation and optimisation of the Council's Three Waters and Landfill Gas networks.

You will provide strategic and hands-on leadership, ensuring all operational activities are aligned with legislative, safety, and environmental requirements. Your role will also include managing projects, driving continuous improvement, supporting the Manager Operations, and being part of the after-hours technical response rotation.

This is a key leadership role in the City Services Group, ensuring reliable essential services for Christchurch residents, while contributing to Council's environmental and sustainability goals.

You are a seasoned infrastructure or network operations professional with strong leadership capability, looking to bring your expertise to an organisation that values community, environment, and innovation. You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline
  • 8-10 years' industry experience with pump systems, underground networks, or similar
  • At least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally within a large organisation
  • Excellent understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Water Supply, Environmental, H&S)
  • Familiarity with ISO standards for quality, environmental, and safety management
  • Strong analytical skills and practical experience in asset and risk management systems
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and contractor management skills
  • A calm, organised approach with the ability to lead under pressure and manage complex operational challenges
