We're currently hiring for a full-time Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Pierce County, WA. This position offers a chance to make a direct impact by supporting students with visual impairments through personalized instruction and adaptive learning strategies.
Position Overview
The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will provide tailored instruction and curriculum modifications to meet the individual needs of visually impaired students. Working under the direction of the Building Principal and in collaboration with general education staff, this educator will create accessible learning experiences that support academic and functional skill development.
Position: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Full-Time)
Location: Pierce County, WA
Grade Level: K-12
Schedule: Monday-Friday - 7hrs per day
Compensation: Starting at $45/hour
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement instructional lessons aligned with students' IEPs
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional techniques to ensure accessibility
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and support personnel to integrate appropriate accommodations
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility skills as needed
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Promote a learning environment that fosters independence and academic success
Qualifications
- Current Washington State Teacher certification with proper
- endorsement required
- Appropriate Special Education Endorsement (or deaf education endorsement or teacher of the visually impaired endorsement) on an individual teaching certificate issued by OSPI
